Ethnomusicology Conference Announcement

The Institute for Canadian Music, Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and the York University Faculties of Fine Arts and Graduate Studies are organizing the first conference on Ethnomusicology in Canada. The confer-ence will be held in Toronto, from Friday to Sunday, May 27 to 29, 1988. The organizers are inviting contributions on the topics below, or proposals for other topics:

a. current research and future directions
b. music in urban environments
C. ethnicity, identity and stereotyping
d. transmission processes: selection, acculturation, mass media
e. governments, educational institutions and ethnomusicology.

Participants should note that this conference is scheduled to precede immediately the Annual Meetings of the Canadian University Schools of Music and the Association of Music Libraries, being held at the "Learneds" in Windsor, Ontario from June 1 to 3 . This scheduling will enable persons from outside Ontario to attend the Learneds and the Ethnomusicology conference in a single trip.
